Chic.K.Go. is a sister blog to CHIC•K•GO.
CHIC•K•GO is a blog my friend Katie and I decided to create in order to show our love for the city of Chicago. As far as my passions go, the city of Chicago and fashion are tied for 1st place. I have always been extremely fond of fashion, but the rag rage really took over when I was a senior in high school. I'll be the first to admit that it took quite some time after that to truly understand how to dress properly and to absorb the way the fashion industry works. These aspects of fashion became obtainable to me after multiple opportunities came my way in various areas of the fashion industry.
I started my path with vintage fashion and interned in the
Vintage Couture & Accessories department at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. I was an intern assistant to Abigail Rutherford, a distinguished woman in the Chicago fashion scene (she just started an awesome jewelry line, take a look
here). Although short, this internship was my favorite. Examining, analyzing and appraising consignment pieces was such a trip. Each piece had immense history, not only with its owners but with the yesteryears of fashion. Being surrounded by 1950's Chanel dresses, Emilio Pucci's skiwear, and luxurious Louis Vuitton trunks was an incredible feeling. It gave me a chance to really research designers and their history, to better grasp how and why their designs monumentally impacted the world of fashion. This internship helped me realize how much I love vintage couture.

Following this internship I studied fashion in Florence, Italy. This was such an amazing experience. European fashion has been undeniably influential to the U.S. and you can see why when living there, it's so elegant and mod. Discussing my travels abroad could be a whole other blog, but one thing I learned from my studies in Italy is that I'm a better wine drinker than fashion designer. However, all the awful sketches and endless work was worth participating in the Lorenzo de Medici fashion show, seen below.

Upon my arrival in the U.S. I went right to work as an intern for Michelle Obamas number one Chicago designer,
Maria Pinto. I watched her grow from a small local designer to a political and celebrity couturier. The press from the Obama campaign launched Pinto back into the spotlight and I was a part of the team that helped broaden her brand and create her first boutique. Unfortunately, Pinto grew her brand too fast during economic hardship and her doors closed down two years later. Helping with her liquidation sale was a sad day, but I have the utmost faith that Maria will bounce back whether it is with fashion or art.

The next stop on my career path was helping Decadence Showroom with trade shows such as Stylemax in Chicago and Project and Magic in Las Vegas. Not only did I love the camaraderie within Decadence but I loved selling the lines. It was especially rewarding to meet the designers and those closely involved with the brand.

Without my experience at Decadence I would not be where I am now, the manager and buyer of a great women's boutique in Winnetka, IL. I have a wonderful job working at Valentina. After all, buying for a store is every girls dream. I have grown up in Chicago my whole life and I refuse to move to the fashion capital of the U.S., NY. Besides the fact that I love this city, I sincerely believe that Chicago is an influential and important fashion area. Chicago has enriched my experience with fashion...thus, the start of my fashion blog
Chic.K.Go. Through this blog I hope to show readers my history, personality, style, and thoughts on fashion...all of which are evolving as fast as the couture world. Stay tuned and keep reading for everything fashion!
